Accountancy

Don’t worry – accountancy is not all numbers! Accountants work in many different settings to provide financial services such as auditing, tax, business advice, management consultancy, systems and IT work and corporate finance. Not sure what these are? Come to the presentation to find out – there are so many different paths you can take in accountancy – and you don’t need to be studying a finance related degree to get into it!

Accountancy body the Institute of Accounting in England and Wales (ICAEW) and Grant Thornton run workshops on careers in accountancy at PP: Sixth.

Investment Banking

What is Investment Banking? If you like solving problems then this could be for you – Investment Banks advise companies, wealthy individuals and governments on what to invest in and how to do it – basically anything that will see their money grow and multiply! It sounds simple, but it’s a challenging and lucrative career. You don’t need to be studying a finance-related degree, and our presenter from a leading bank will tell you everything you need to get involved.

IT & Computing

Computing and computer technology are part of just about everything that touches our lives from the cars we drive, to the movies we watch, to the ways businesses and governments deal with us. Understanding different dimensions of computing is part of the necessary skill set for an educated person in the 21st century. Whether you want to be a scientist, develop the latest killer application, or just know what it really means when someone says “the computer made a mistake”, studying computing will provide you with valuable knowledge, and a career at the cutting edge of new technology can be extremely challenging and lucrative.

Our partner IT firm is Google, who are coming along to the event at Imperial.  

Law

All rise! Barrister or solicitor? Conversion course or law degree? Criminal law or property law? From paralegal to judge, let our top law firms answer your questions. Find out everything you need to know about the legal profession.

We have 14 partner law firms of solicitors and you will have the opportunity to meet one at any event you attend. The Bar Council are coming to the events at Manchester and Imperial only.

Business Consultancy

Management consultants are invited into organisations to provide an objective analysis, wider expertise and specialist skills to help improve performance. Our presentations will explain the roles and lifestyle of a management consultant, the different types of consulting and the entry requirements. Our presenters are keen to meet students from all degree disciplines.

McKinsey and Co will be at UCL and Imperial to talk about careers in consultancy.

Retail

Retail continues to be an industry with enormous growth potential. Retailers are always looking for good people with a commitment to customer service, the ability to work in a team environment and who can work through complex situations with problem solving skills. Working in retail offers many exciting opportunities for dedicated individuals - find out more at the retail workshop.

Our retail partner is Marks and Spencer.

Teaching

Life as a teacher offers you all the opportunities, training, support and rewards you need to develop and build a stimulating and successful career. Our presentations will tell you what life as a teacher is really like, and will help you to decide whether teaching is for you.

Our Teaching partner is Teach First, who will be coming to the LSE event.

Medicine

The BMA will be attending all of our events to talk to students interested in a medical career. They will discuss the different careers available and their entry routes, and will advise on how to your medical application as strong as possible. Medicine Career Workshops are available at all Pure Potential events.


A final note...

We know that some of you may not be thinking of pursuing a career in these industries, however it is still essential that you attend two workshops. You can include the workshops in your personal statement as positive exploration of your career options. The career workshops are designed to encourage students to think about what their future career might be - who knows, like some Pure Potential Alumni, you could walk away with a completely new perspective on your future career. Pure Potential's advice is to come along with open mind - you never know what you might learn!
