Frequently Asked Questions

PP: Sixth Events

  • I am a student and would like to book a place at a PP: Sixth event, how do I do this?
Visit the Events Home Page for information on how to book a place. All students must book a place individually - if you are a teacher and would like to book ten or more places please contact binda: 020 7 122 1223 / binda (at) purepotential.org.

  • Who are the PP: Sixth events aimed at?
Bright, year 12 students from state schools who are expecting at least 300 UCAS Points. We particularly welcome (althought this does not affect the selection process) students who have gone to schools with a poor record of getting students into a wide range of universities; who have parents with no experience of higher education; who come from an inner city school; who are in receipt of EMA or who have little support in general with regards to university applications.

  • I am not sure whether I want to go to university. Can I still apply for a place at a PP: Sixth event?
Yes, you will also find out about school leaver programmes at PP: Sixth events. These events are about raising aspirations. For some students that will mean inspiring them to consider a wider range of courses and institutions, for others it will involve discussing the benefits of higher education. You can get so much from these events, wherever you are in the decision making process.

  • Isn't it a bit early to be thinking about all of this? Applying is months away!
It is never too soon to start. Many students don't realise that the deadline for applying to study Medicine, Dentistry or Veterinary Medicine (at any institution) or to study at Oxford and Cambridge is mid-October. Your personal statement has to be prepared and perfected, your school reference written, your choices made. Remember that many universities start making offers as soon as they receive applications, so it would be wrong, and risky, to assume that if the deadlines are in January that this is when the universities will begin to make decisions. If you're thinking of applying to school leaver programmes then for many firms the deadliens are also in the Autumn term, so you need to be prepared.
The main reason for starting to think about this now, however, is so that you can make the right decisions. This applies to course and university choice and even whether you go at all. Few decisions you make in your life will be as important as this one, so give yourself some time to make it!

  • I am a teacher and would like to make a group booking for several students. Is this possible?
If you would like to bring a group of ten or more students please contact binda (at) purepotential.org or call her on 020 7122 1223.

  • I am a member of staff, or parent accompanying students to a PP: Sixth event, do I need to book a place?
You are welcome to join your students,  and you do NOT need to book a place. Please just email binda (at) purepotential.org and let her know you are coming.

  • I receive a full scholarship to a private school. Can I still apply?
Unfortunately not. Well done though, for having won such a competitive scholarship. Pure Potential was established to assist those who have not had access to the information needed to make strong university applications.

  • Are travel expenses paid?
No, we do not provide travel expenses, however attending the event is free of charge.

  • What should I bring with me?
Three very important things: a pen, a pad and a packed lunch.
  • Is there a dress code?
No, there is no dress code, so please dress as you consider appropriate and feel comfortable in.

  • Why are some fields in the PP: Sixth event booking form mandatory?
Please note that all information is for monitoring purposes only, it will remain completely anonymous and will not be used in the selection process. Pure Potential has sought advice from higher education organisations and advisory boards who have suggested that some questions must be asked in order to ascertain factors involved in higher education decisions. From this anonymous information collected Pure Potential hopes to help as many students as possible.

  • PP: Sixth Event timings?
Events begin at 10.00, so please arrive by 9.45am. The day finishes at 3.30pm.

  • Can I bring a friend?
To attend an event you must have booked a place through our form on the Events Home Page, or via your teacher. If you would like your friend to attend, then please tell them to book prior to the event online as you did.

  • Can my parents come?
Yes, parents and teachers are welcome to join, and they don't need to register.

  • Can I come to more than one PP: Sixth event?
You will not need to come to more than one event as you will receive all the information you require from one event.

  • I haven't received a ticket or any details - what will happen next?
If you reached the end of the booking form, you have definitely got a place! Nearer the time of the event you will be contacted via email and text, and all information required will be available on the website.

  • Should I bring a packed lunch?
Yes. Lunch is not provided, although food will be available to purchase at the university campus.

  • I would like to unsubscribe
In the unlikely event that you have not found our free online services of help and you wish to unsubscribe, please contact binda (at) purepotential.org with your username and email address.

  • Can I receive a copy of the presentations used at a PP: Sixth?
We do not have presentations at every event, so it is not always possible for us to email this to students and teachers. You will find much of the information from our events on various pages of the website.
