Lattitude Global Volunteering
A registered volunteer charity running for 36 years, we offer structured placements in 17 countries around the world including environmental, community, outdoor education, medical, and teaching placements.
Projects last between three and twelve months and Lattitude works hard to ensure that volunteers are placed where they are really needed, and that they are not displacing the local workforce. Placements fees starts from £1514 and in the majority of placements all food and accommodation costs are covered by the host, making us one of the most affordable gap year organisations.
The benefits of volunteering with Lattitude
Lattitude volunteering placements are a valuable educational experience for young people. The opportunity to live and work in a new culture and environment offers many opportunities to learn about the world we live in, promoting global citizenship. Our volunteers grow in independence and confidence - they develop new skills such as team working, cultural diversity awareness, managing resources and communication skills.
A Lattitude volunteering placement also raises awareness of social, economic and environmental issues in the developing and developed world and will often develop people's commitment to volunteering which, is of lasting benefit to the individual and the communities they return to in the UK.
Lattitude Bursary Scheme
Lattitude are unique in offering bursaries and funded places to potential volunteers. Our bursary places are designed to offer financial support for young people who could not otherwise afford to volunteer overseas.
The bursaries range from small top up grants to fully funded placements and we currently have 10 fully funded places available through our ‘Go Global’ scheme to give away by September 2009. We are looking for young people who are up for the challenge of volunteering overseas but might find it tough to raise the funds to do so and opportunities include teaching in Ecuador, Ghana or India, Outdoor Education projects in Australia and working on a Community Outreach program in Fiji.
If you know a young person who may benefit from financial assistance in taking up a volunteer placement please let them know about our bursary scheme, or alternatively contact our bursary officer, Jo Neville on 0118 956 2905 or jneville@lattitude.org.uk for more information.
