Hogan Lovells

Hogan Lovells is one of the leading global law firms. Formed through the combination of two top international law firms, Hogan Lovells has over 40 offices in Asia, Europe, Latin America, the Middle East, and the United States. With a presence in the world’s major financial and commercial markets, we are well placed to provide excellent business-oriented advice to our clients locally and internationally.

The range of work at Hogan Lovells is very broad. This is one of our strengths as a business and a long standing attraction for candidates. Our international strength across a wide range of practice areas gives us an exceptional reputation not only for corporate, finance, dispute resolution, government regulatory and intellectual property, but also for other specialist areas including employment, EU/competition, insurance and tax.

Training Contracts

We recruit up to 90 trainee solicitors each year. All trainees receive approximately 160 hours of formal training over the two year training contract, including the Professional Skills introductions to the specialist groups at Lovells. Trainees spend six months in four different "seats" with the option of spending one of these in an international office or on secondment to the in-house legal department of a major client. Throughout your training contract we will work closely with you to advise and provide feedback on your progress. This involves formal and informal assessments as well as advice on practice areas, secondments and qualification. Our task is much more than merely recruiting - it means ensuring that your ambitions are met by the firm.

Vacation schemes

We offer up to 50 places over two highly regarded summer vacation schemes. Each scheme is carefully designed to give students the opportunity to gain a broad insight into the work of the firm, as the time is split between three of our major practice areas (corporate, finance, commerce and dispute resolution).

Selection Criteria

As a consequence of the high profile work the firm does, applicants need to have achieved excellent academic results from GCSE (or equivalent) onwards. A 2.1 (or equivalent) is the minimum standard of degree applicants should hold or be expecting to achieve, but we are looking for more than strong academic qualifications.

Applicants need to be happy working in a team yet capable of, and used to, independent action. You will need to demonstrate ability and desire for lateral thinking, be capable of close attention to detail, and be ambitious to succeed in a top law firm.
