The UBS Award for Outstanding Students
For the third time Pure Potential has teamed up with leading investment bank UBS to recognise and celebrate the achievements of the brightest state-school sixth form students in the country. On Thursday, 8th November UBS will be hosting this exclusive event and presenting each successful student with an award for outstanding achievement.
This award would make an excellent addition to a student’s personal statement, and will also give him or her the opportunity to meet junior and senior representatives from one of the world’s largest investment banks and learn about the work they do.
To be eligible for the award students must be available on the afternoon and evening of 8th November and have achieved at least 3As in their AS examinations (or equivalent). To be considered for the award students must include any additional information that would support their application such as any extra-curricular activities they have taken part in, voluntary work or difficult personal circumstances.
Successful applicants, along with one guest, will be invited to attend the ceremony. Students travelling from outside London can claim up to £25 back for their travel expenses (click here for terms and conditions). Teachers, parents, friends and relatives may nominate students and students can also nominate themselves.
Pure Potential will let all nominators know if their nominee has been chosen to attend the UBS Award for Outstanding Students event by Monday, 1st October 2012.
Nominations for this year's UBS Award have now closed.
Last Year's Winners
"I want to thank Pure Potential for all your great work and for choosing me for the UBS Award. I received a letter from Cambridge University today and they have offered me a place to read Natural Sciences - I'm sure the Award helped towards that, so thank you so much." - Sophie Draper
“My favourite part was the longer, unstructured networking session at the end. I was luckily introduced to a UBS staff member who graduated from the Cambridge course that I'm applying for and was really helpful, interesting and reassuring.” - Student
“I really enjoyed being among like-minded people who share the same ambitions as me towards further education. I also enjoyed being able to practice interacting with people I had never met before, which gave me a huge confidence boost.” - Student
“The event was inspirational. A whole raft of highly gifted young adults have now had the limit to their horizons broadened into an arena that many of them would not have even considered before this event. Many of them are just as gifted as their privately educated counterparts, if not more so – hitherto, they just wouldn’t have even considered aspiring to such a world class institution such as UBS. It’s a question of confidence - well done UBS and PP for being so far sighted as to tell these young people how good they are, and that there is no limit to where they can go. And in 15 years time, if UBS’ CEO is drawn from someone in that audience, good on UBS!” - Student
“I am delighted to have this on my CV – hopefully this award will help me to stand out and allow me to reach my goal of working internationally.” - Student
