The Frank Buttle Trust

Founded in 1937 and operational since 1953, the Frank Buttle Trust is the largest UK charity providing grant aid solely to individual children and young people in serious need. For over half a century, the Trust has helped many thousands of vulnerable children, young people and families throughout the United Kingdom. The people we help are often in particularly difficult circumstances and may be experiencing significant deprivation. They may be estranged from their family, seriously ill, or experiencing a range of other social problems. The Trust provides support through a number of grant aid schemes, the following of which are relevant to young people:

  • The Child Support Scheme. The aim of the Trust’s Child Support Scheme is to meet the needs of children and young people in significant need. The grants are intended to make a positive contribution to their lives when their safety, health or development are at risk. The grants provide necessities such as clothes, beds, bedding and essential items of furniture and household equipment.

  • The Grant Scheme for Students and Trainees. The Grant Scheme for Students and Trainees helps young people facing severe social, emotional or health problems, or those whose education has been undermined by problems of this kind in the past, to acquire academic, trade or professional qualifications. We can consider applications for young people who are: between the ages of 16 and 20; estranged from their family; orphaned; adopted; cared for by relatives or friends; caring for a severely sick or disabled single parent; refugees with full refugee status or Indefinite Leave to Remain in the UK. We do not normally help those who are: studying second degrees, postgraduate courses or studying overseas; looked after by a local authority or Health and Social Care Trust in Northern Ireland; living outside the UK
