Founding Director of Pure Potential, Marc Zao Sanders, contributed an article in the Telegraph on Alan Milburn’s 2009 report on social mobility and access to the professions. Marc discusses the outcomes of the report and the lack of action from the government to address the key issues which affect thousands of students from state schools and colleges from across the UK.

For the fifth year running Pure Potential are holding an event for state educated students in their first year of university who are interested in pursuing a career in law. Lawyer2B magazine wrote a piece on this year’s event.
March 2012
Pure Potential have teamed up with the Sutton Trust and the Fulbright Commission to organise a summer school for 64 state-educated Year 12 students who are interested in studying in the US. The past year has seen an increase in the number of applicants to the US, however, the majority of these applications have come from independent schools. This programme will provide students with the support they need to make an informed decision about US study and offer guidance on the application process. The BBC ran a piece on the Today programme in February discussing the state-private debate and the Times wrote two articles about the summer school; the first providing a short overview of the scheme, and the second article was written by Sir Peter Lampl, Chariman of the Sutton Trust.

October 2011
For the second time running, Pure Potential and UBS recognised the achievements of 75 state-school sixth form students at a celebration event in London. Students were presented with their Awards and had the opportunity to develop key skills and network with UBS staff. The award was featured in a number of local newspapers including Sheffield Telegraph, The Sheffield Star and The Watford Observer.

In February 2011 Pure Potential teamed up with leading financial services firm UBS to recognise and celebrate the achievements of 100 bright state-school sixth form students. The award caught the attention of the local press in Harrow, Shropshire and Islington, among others.

We have been collaborating on a project with Dr Graeme Atherton of London Aimhigher Central London Partnership to investigate views and feelings of Year 12 and Year 13 students about HE entitled ‘Examining the relationship between financial support and the Student Experience – the impact of raising tuition fees in England’. The study draws from our extensive 2006 survey as well as the results from a specially commissioned focus group, and a summary is available to download.
