Grant Thornton

GRANTTHORNTONCompanies are full of advice when it comes to recruitment. Most of it just boils down to: ‘choose us’. But without a clear and objective guide to your options how are you supposed to sort out the right path – and the right place – for you?

The best decisions are made with real information about real choices. That’s why all our award-winning trainee programmes provide hands-on experience from the outset, structured training and clear career progression – whether you are a school leaver, undergraduate or graduate.

Of course, you’ll get the professional qualifications that come with our first-class training, but our aim is to grow trusted business people with real-world experience who can take our clients from where they are to where they want to be.

So you won’t be stuck doing the same thing over and over, but gain valuable experience out on client sites, with exposure to dynamic organisations of all shapes and sizes across a broad range of sectors – from property and financial services to media, retail and technology. This is where you’ll also find the fast growth companies – the biotech startups and online gaming ventures – and get to work with businesses at exciting stages of their development. And, once qualified, with our global reach and portfolio, you’ll have exciting opportunities to spread your wings across our global network of offices too. Whether you’re working on international accounts or taking secondments abroad, you – like our clients – will have access to the world-leading knowledge and experience of 2,500 partners and 30,000 people in over 100 countries.

Accelerate Programme – for school leavers

If you’re eager to make your way straight from school into the world of work, or simply want to change professions, our Accelerate programme could be for you.

In the first few years you’ll study towards either the AAT or ACCA in audit or ATT or ACCA in tax (depending the office that you join). With commitment and hard work, you could be fully qualified within five years, a year ahead of people who choose to go to university. You’ll also spend intensive time at our dedicated training facility, Bradenham Manor in Buckinghamshire, to develop your technical knowledge and business skills, consolidate your learning and meet other trainees in a relaxed atmosphere. Our people get all the security and amazing opportunities you’d find in a large firm, coupled with a supportive, friendly office environment and great prospects. It’s what fast-track careers at the heart of business are made of.

Internships & Placements – for Undergraduate University Students

We’re incredibly proud of our internships and placements, and were pleased to get the top award by Rate My Placement for 2011, and come second in 2012. Being the ‘best provider of internships and placements’, and leaders within our sector, really reflects the investment we make in our programmes.

If you’re taking the university route, our summer internships are a perfect way to get a taste of life at our firm – and we offer them in over 20 of our offices in our main business areas: Audit, Tax and Advisory. Internships last between four and six weeks, and are open to all university students in their penultimate year.

If you’re going onto a four-year sandwich degree course you might think about joining our 12-month placement to experience a year right at the heart of business. Here you’ll work as a fully signed-up member of the team, taking on the same responsibilities as a first year graduate.

Both our internships and placements are an excellent way to get a proper insight into our business and our clients. We give both interns and placements a learning culture all about development, real client work and a fast-track to a graduate offer if they choose this path. You will develop new skills and build your commercial acumen and confidence across a broad portfolio of clients, supported throughout by a manager and a trainee buddy. You’ll also enjoy excellent networking opportunities through a number of national and local social events.

Graduates

Our graduate programme is designed to help you become a professionally qualified business adviser who is able to meet our clients’ needs with technical expertise and real-world business experience.

You’ll be expected to bring valuable insights to our firm and our clients. That means having the confidence to test assumptions right from day one and having the ability to see the fine details as well as the big picture. You’ll listen critically, have the ability to drill down to the relevant issues, regardless of sector, and be agile and effective in your response. You’ll enjoy tough challenges, seek out opportunities and look to add real value in businesses. You could even be leading your own team or client portfolio in your second year. As you train, you’ll work towards a professional qualification, with paid study leave and time off to sit exams.
