Why Choose Yale?
Location: Yale is in New Haven, Connecticut about an hour and a half from New York City. With a population of 125,000, New Haven was described by Yale’s President Rick Levin as a city that is “…large enough to be interesting, but small enough to be friendly.”
Academics: Yale offers a Liberal Arts curriculum with depth and breadth across the arts and sciences. Over 2000 classes and 75 major fields of study are on offer at Yale College along with opportunities at Yale’s 13 graduate and professional schools. International experiences are a key part of life at Yale and the University provides over $4 million a year to support Yale College students in research, study and volunteer opportunities overseas.
Advising and undergraduate focus: With a student/faculty ratio of 6:1, close interaction with world-class professors is a key part of the Yale experience. 75% of classes enroll fewer than 20 students.
Residential housing system: Every student is assigned to one of twelve residential colleges. Microcosms of the larger student body, the colleges encourage students to meet peers of all different ages, backgrounds, and interests. The colleges are small communities of 400-450 students each and are an integral part of the Yale experience.
Extra-curriculars: The list of opportunities is endless – sport, music, theatre, improv comedy groups, political societies, multicultural organisations, community service, and Yale newspapers and publications are but a few of the opportunities Yale has to offer outside of the classroom.
Tradition: There is more to Yale than academics and beautiful buildings. A wonderful array of rich and quirky traditions, including ‘Master’s teas’ with famous speakers, celebrations at every Yale Football game, ‘Spring Fling’ (Yale’s largest campus-wide party), Yale Winter Ball and many others make the experience a memorable one.
